(Gen 2:9) “And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
When God placed man in the Garden of Eden He put 4 kinds of trees in the garden with him. These trees represent the 4 areas of a man’s life that need constant cultivation.
1) Pleasant to the Sight= Beauty and Culture. Man does not live by work alone. He needs some things that exist simply because they are pleasant to the senses. Sometimes God simply wants us to enjoy the beauty around us.
2) Good for Food= Physical Development. Man was originally a vegetarian so God provided exactly the tree he needed for proper nourishment. Man today needs to learn that God wants us to eat the right foods, in the right proportions. If we did, what an amazing difference that would make in our health and wellbeing.
3) Tree of Life= Spiritual Nourishment. When we begin our faith Relationship with God we are “born again” into a new life that daily needs nurturing from God’s provided resources.
4) Tree of knowledge of good and evil= Moral Discernment. The ability to recognize right from wrong is a big responsibility. Yet God put this tree in our paradise so we would learn to seek the good, avoid the bad, and become children of God instead of robots of religion.
From the beginning God was concerned that we develop in all areas of our life. How amazingly awesome!
