Six year old Timmy looked at his parents one day and said, “I know exactly what I want for Christmas this year. A New Car!” The parents said, “Fine” and added “new car” to Timmy’s Christmas list. Christmas day arrived and Timmy rushed past the presents piled under the tree and into the yard where he looked all around while asking, “Where is it? Where is my new car?” The Parents simply said, “Timmy, it is under the tree with your other presents.”
Timmy really wanted; and had genuine faith that his loving parents would provide, a new car for him to drive. The Parents, however, filtered Timmy’s request thru knowledge of his age and abilities and knew it was best for Timmy to get a model car under the tree instead of a real car parked in the driveway.
One Prayer Principles given by Jesus was,
If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?” (Luke 11:11).
Timmy was disappointed in the driveway but his parents knew giving him a “serpent when he really needed a fish” was not the best answer to his request. People who pray need to remember that God is even smarter than these parents!
