Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6

Don’t Blame Christmas

I think most people will admit that Christmas has gotten out of control. It has evolved from a time of worshipping a babe in Bethlehem into a time when we feed our greeds, are overwhelmed with stressful needs, and overdo our feeds. It has backpedaled so far into October until many people have had about all the Christmas they care about by the beginning of December. Even Thanksgiving Thursday has migrated into “let’s get started early on Black Friday”. People now gobble their gobbler in order to stand in the cold and then fight crowd crush for that elusive bargain. It is time someone holds up a giant STOP sign to remind people that “no room at the inn” caused the crowd to miss the glory of God becoming flesh and dwelling among men!

The Shepherds brought no presents when they came to see the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger. They simply came, stared, and then shared all around town what they had seen. It was almost two years later that Wise Men came with Gifts (Which were probably used to help the family escape to Egypt and avoid the killing wrath of the king). It is not wrong to buy things for those we love but do not blame your greedy gift buying and your overwhelming January bills on God. Not something He asked for or desires.

Celebrating Christmas is great. Just do not let your gift getting overshadow God’s gift giving.
